Intense Pulse Light (IPL) is a non-invasive, non-ablative skin care treatment that utilizes pulses of high intensity visible light to improve the appearance of various skin conditions.

IPL treats vascular conditions like broken capillaries (spider veins) and brown spots (age spots) caused by sun damage. IPL also stimulates the production of collagen which plumps the skin and gives a fresher look by refining and tightening large pores.

What can we treat with IPL?

You can treat many different skin & hair conditions with IPL
Acne Rosacea

Acne is a daily challenge for many people who suffer it’s discomfort around the world. Light based technology has created a revolution in the treatment of Acne. The treatments are short, effective and painless. Acne Rosacea is a common skin condition generally characterized by redness in the cheek, nose, and mid face areas. Rosacea causes a flushing of the face which can eventually leave permanently enlarged visible red blood vessels and capillaries. IPL treatments have proved to very effective in closing down the enlarged blood vessels which cause the red faced appearance in patients with Acne Rosacea.

Vascular

Intense pulse light has proved effective in reducing the look of broken capillaries (spider veins). The application of IPL frequencies generate heat which causes the blood inside the vessel walls to coagulate resulting in their collapse and sealing. Over a period of weeks, the spider vein becomes invisible as it is absorbed by the body. The surrounding tissue remains unscarred and undamaged.

Hair Reduction

Intense pulse light is an effective, safe method of removing unwanted hair and can be used safely to treat most parts of the body. Compared with methods such as electrolysis and waxing, IPL hair removal is an effective form of permanent hair reduction that is nearly pain free for most people. Back treatments using IPL can be done in as little as 30 minutes and most other areas generally require less time. The number of sessions required to sustain permanent hair reduction varies based on the density of hair being treated and growth. IPL is effective on people of all skin and hair colours except those with white hair. Although IPL can be performed on all skin colours, people exposed to the sun or tanning beds should wait at least 2 weeks before being treated. removal is an effective form of permanent hair reduction that is nearly pain free for most people. IPL vs. Lasers

Intense pulse light is not a laser pulse. It’s an intense light source but so is a laser, fundamentally-speaking, albeit a far more intense light source. What makes IPL different from laser is that it directs a broad-spectrum high intensity light pulse on the skin instead of a more invasive, precisely calibrated laser beam set on a narrower, specific wavelength. In other words, IPL operates on a wider range of wavelengths and thus, one IPL machine can treat more than one condition, using special filters to remove unwanted wavelengths and keep only those required for the specific skin concern being addressed.

Pigmentation

Hyperpigmentation is a patch of skin that has become darker in color than the normal surrounding skin. This darkening occurs when an excess of melanin, the brown pigment that produces normal skin colour, forms deposits in the skin. We refer to hyperpigmentation as age spots, liver spots, freckles, sun spots. A person might experience hyperpigmentation on their face or body for a number of reasons, including hormones, medication, skin disease, photo damage or even the natural aging process. Consider IPL for hyperpigmentation treatment. IPL helps to neutralize areas of hyperpigmentation while minimizing any damage caused to the surrounding tissue. Enjoy a much more even, youthful skin tone.

Wrinkles
Intense pulse light can reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by stimulating collagen production. This allows the skin to appear firmer and smoother.

Common Questions

The first meeting- during your first visit, a full consultation will be conducted to ensure that you have no contraindications for any Sheerwave® IPL 360 treatments. To ensure the appropriate parameter settings of the Sheerwave® IPL 360, the technician will evaluate the client’s skin and skin color along with the area(s) to be treated. The technician will always make sure to select the lowest settings to ensure maximum safety.

During the treatment - the technician will clean the area to be treated and apply a cooling gel. Protective glasses will be worn in order to protect both client and technician from the flashes coming from the Sheerwave® IPL 360. The Sheerwave® IPL 360 handpiece will be placed over the area to be treated and a series of flashes will be triggered with a minimum of 0.5 seconds between each flash. Once the treatment is completed, the gel will be wiped off and the technician will apply any after treatment creams including a sun protection. For permanent hair reduction treatment, you will have to shave the areas to be treated 24 hours before the treatment. For blond or white hair, the technician will perform a waxing before the treatment.
